Meet Alabama - The Band

Hit country and Southern rock band Alabama formed in the same state they’re named after, more specifically the city of Fort Payne. Lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Randy Owen banded the group together in 1969 along with his cousin Teddy Gentry (bass guitar, background vocals). They were soon joined by their other cousin, Jeff Cook (lead guitar, fiddle, and keyboards) originally under the name Wildcountry. They peaked in the 1980s, with seven multi-platinum albums and several awards. Their streak began with the single "Tennessee River", and was followed by 21 number one singles, including "Love in the First Degree" (1981), "Mountain Music" (1982), "Dixieland Delight" (1983), "If You're Gonna Play in Texas (You Gotta Have a Fiddle in the Band)" (1984) and "Song of the South" (1988).
